M.A. in Education With Teaching Credential Emphasis (Multiple Subject)


Overview

The Teacher Education Program at Bethany University is approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) to recommend qualified candidates for a Multiple-Subject (essentially for elementary school) or Single Subject (essentially junior and senior high) teaching credential.  Bethany's program meets the California SB2042, No Child Left Behind requirements, providing students with the  professional coursework required by the CCTC.

The Teacher Education Program (TEP) Graduate Council considers the applicant for selection  This process includesconsideration of the applicant's file and pre-assessment information. Selection into the Teaching Credential Program is based on the applicant's match with the program goals, the Bethany University environment, the Christian community, and the professional judgement of the applicant's success as a potential classroom teacher as stipulated by the requirements of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Prerequisites

  1. EDUC 5203 Linguistics for Educators (or equivalent)
  2. Completion of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution
  3. Demonstration of subject matter competency (CSET) to meet CCTC and/or ACSI requirements
  4. All CCTC and/or ACSI prerequisites for the respective credentials, including CBEST and fingerprint clearance
  5. Six (6) semester units of Bible coursework (ACSI only)

  • EDUC 7753 Subject-specific Methodology (MS)
  • EDUC 7783 Research Design and Statistical Procedures
  • EDUC 6803 Language Acquisition and Classroom Practices
  • EDUC 7832 Christian Philosophy of Education
  • EDUC 7899 Student Teaching (MS)
  • EDUC 6922 Supervised Field Experience (MS)

Note 1: See the Credential Analyst for copies of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) requirements for a multiple subject credential and supplemental authorizations including the CLAD, as well as for the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) credential requirements.
Note 2: An average GPA of 3.0, and a minimum grade of "B" in all coursework is the minimum requirement to be recommended for a M.A. in Education degree
Note 3: A grade below a "B" in student teaching will necessitate additional requirements being met prior to recommendation.
