Application Requirements


The following requirements must be fulfilled prior to the applicant being evaluated for selection into the College, or the Teaching Credential Program. Once the application file has been reviewed the applicant is informed of the TEP Graduate Council's decision in writing. If the applicant is selected, they should immediately begin to complete any additional requirements which might delay their approval for student teaching.

  1. Completed application form
  2. Application fee received
  3. Three letters of reference (character, employer, educator) from a non-family member
  4. Field work evaluation form (30 hours minimum completed in a public school)
  5. Affidavit for Certificate of Clearance (Form I-E-30)
  6. CBEST test taken (all sections of the CBEST must be passed prior to the beginning of student teaching)
  7. Two copies of official college transcripts received (from all colleges attended)
  8. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution (or upper division status equivalent to a junior or senior with program permission)
  9. TB clearance by a doctor/clinic within the last 12 months (students cannot be placed in any field assignments until official verification is on file)
  10. Verification of subject matter competency (or proof of application for next available test date)
  11. Proof of completion of the CCTC's prerequisite requirements for U.S. History and speech (or a written statement on how those will be met prior to student teaching)
  12. Proof of completion of program prerequisites for various credentials including linguistics and children's literature (check with the credential analyst for which apply to the credential being sought). If the requirements are not completed, a written proposal for how and when they will be completed must be provided with the applicant's signature and date
  13. Completion of the preassessment process which includes:
    • Personality assessment
    • Assessment of basic knowledge and skills
    • Assessment of relational skills in an interview
    • Assessment of writing skills
    • Other assessments as deemed necessary by the TEP Graduate Council
  14. International students may have additional procedures to verity B.A. equivalence and eligibility for a California Teaching Credential. Check with the credential analyst
